Liveblogging (sort of) WordPress as CMS

I confess I’m already a bit tired and i need caffeine. I think it was that amazing barbecue we had for lunch. So I’m half dozing off/spacing out during this session in order to try and reboot. Here are some notes I found from the web about this session.

Here are the notes for the presentation.
WordPress isn’t just for blogging
Think of posts as data objects and comments as subpages. A post could be a CD and the comments could be the track listings.

WordPress Versatility
o When a post isn’t a “post”
o Posts or pages as data objects
o Comments: children of a post/page
o Forget about chronology, order according to your criteria
o Structured blogging
o Why use WP for things other than blogs?

Plugin System
o Radical mods without core WP changes
o Why use plugins? Aren’t core mods faster to do?

WordPress “Pages”
o Non-chronological by design
o Hierarchical
o wp_list_pages();
o Subpage Listing Plugin (self-plug!)

Examples and Audience Suggestions
o e-commerce/product catalog
o petition/sign-up list
o personal health log
o directory

Improvements in 2.1 and beyond
o “Static” front page (2.1)
o Better management of large number of pages (2.1/2.2)
