I’m not sure that it is an April Fools Day Joke, although it would make a hat trick for me if it was, the post was dated April 2 @ the ABC website which would lead me to believe that it’s not + there’s mention of it on PaidContent late last week as well.

LOL!

I almost wish this was true. Too often the label is too focused on the visual which leads to demos now costing hundreds of â‚¬ to make because the CD should look store-ready when it arrives on the desk of the record companies.

It’s ridiculous but some companies don’t even accept mp3s or links.

Duncan, do you think this is an April Fool’s joke by ABC? Problem is, it’s very believable, though I would have expected from any other label than Sony.

I once went to Sony Canada in Toronto and left my demo set of 5 CDs. The guy I gave it to passed it on but the intended target says he listened to them, though from his explanation, I’m pretty sure he didn’t bother. At any rate, he wasn’t looking for ambient stuff a la Moby, Brian Eno, etc. He wanted “Urban”, which I’m not, despite trying.

Still, if this news is real, it’ll be a disappointment for all those aspiring musicians that do not have time to blog. I don’t know about other Sony offices but I do know that Sony Canada’s execs – the ones I’ve met with when I had my print mag – are very open-minded. Bands I’ve interviewed have said the same. So this is a surprising development for the label, in my opinion.
