Google, Sprint, teams up to launch new and improved WiMax

Google, SprintGoogle and Sprint Nextel teams up to develop new and improved WiMax, a web portal that allows users to stay connected on social networks and access web search using mobile devices.

This collaboration is Google’s biggest alliance with a major US mobile service provider, and is expected to expand Google search services to the mobile web market as the two companies launch this ultimate mobile gateway to various net services by April 2008.

“This seems to be a bigger deal than what Google’s done in the past, more comprehensive,” said Pacific Crest analyst Steve Weinstein, who comments that wireless services will be a “very material driver” for Google by late 2008 or early 2009. Sprint will be utilizing Google’s email, chat, and web search technologies to take their mobile communications and services to the next level.
