Hollywood outfits sue Chinese website
With more than 100 million pirated CDs and DVDs confiscated by Chinese authorities last year, the crackdown intensifies as Hollywood firms continue to sue different Chinese firms.
According to Xinhua news agency, 5 Hollywood studios have filed a copyright lawsuit against Chinese movie download company Jeboo.com and an Internet café for distributing pirated downloads of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and other big films.
Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney, Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Universal Studios ordered Jeboo.com to stop the piracy immediately, make a public apology, and pay $432,000 as compensation.
A Shanghai-based Internet café is also dragged in this case for providing movie download service using a software developed by Jeboo.com.
Claiming as the biggest movie download provider in China, Jeboo.com has more than 30,000 movies and TV series in its database. Its copyright statement also claims to have valid partnerships with different movie studios.
