Internet rules the social life of many American teenagers

Obviously, the Internet is the place to be for many American teenagers to socialize with other people. Thanks to social networking sites and the convergence with mobile phones, the online universe has become central to the lives of many teenagers.

An article in The Mercury News pointed out the striking social media trends affecting teenagers today. Teenage girls are the dominating the blogging world. According to Pew, 35% of online teen girls blog while only 20% among teen boys.

So, what’s keeping the younger boys busy? Of course, it’s YouTube and other video sharing sites. About 19% of boys patronize these sites while oly 10% of teen girls are into this activity.

However, not everything is cool for these teenagers. E-mail, a fabulous technology which I considered the backbone of modern communication, is now uncool given so many options like chats and text messaging.
