Microsoft investigates Xbox Live frauds

Xbox LiveXbox Live has over 6 million users, and it now would seem as if the online gaming network for Xbox and Xbox 360 users are targeted by credit card scammers. Apparently, people have found their Xbox Live accounts hijacked and pumped for Microsoft Points, the currency used to buy content via the Xbox Live Marketplace.

“Recently, there have been reports of fraudulent activity and account theft taking place on the Xbox Live network,” a Microsoft representative said in a statement provided to CNET News.com. “Security is a top priority for Xbox Live, and we are actively investigating all reports of fraudulent behavior and theft.”

Xbox Live will soon work together with Windows Vista, and will share the Microsoft Points structure. Also worth noting is that Xbox Live Gold use costs money, more or less as much as a Xbox 360 game each year. Pay money to get scammed, eh?
