On2 buys Finish mobile video company

On2Ever heard of On2? If you have worked with Flash you might have, as they have great conversion software for just about any video format to Flash files. I’ve used their cheaper products for a few products and own a few licenses actually. They’re good, I recommend them…

Anyway, they’re stating in a press release that they’ve bought Finish mobile video company Hantro, which I’ve never heard of. Hantro obviously works with video and various compression implementations for Nokia, Sanyo and a bunch of other companies. Mobile stuff, but not only mobile phones it would seem.

So why are On2 buying Hantro? Well, it’s pretty obvious, right? They’re after the Finish company’s technology so that On2 can further push into the handheld market with their software. That’s worth over $58 million, right? Well, it might, as Hantro seems to be thriving with expected 2007 revenues over $8 million according to the release.
