UAE bans Orkut.com

Social networking sites could be in for ban in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after its government decided to block Orkut.com following reports that the site contains sexually explicit material and is being used for immoral activities.

ArabianBusiness.com reports that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the UAE issued a formal letter to its Internet service providers to block the site after receiving complaints about objectionable materials.

UAE recently lifted a ban on MySpace and YouTube.

  5. its ok if they r missusing orkut . u can block the bad communities that users made..
    we r using orkut for communicating with friends . so y u blocked the whole site u just have to block community and indecent users..

  6. i agree.. i respect their decision to block orkut in regard with the country’s social norms but people who have nothing to do with explicit content and such related communities shouldn’t suffer .. this was a means to keep in touch with our friends and relatives and is disappointing that it has been suddenly blocked without any notice..

  8. I started using orkut some 6 months back. its a very usefull forum to contact your friends, family and cowerkers. you can also get knowledge and references from this site. but unfortunately this site has been blocked.can anybody help me to log on to orkut please.

Its a real act of hypocracy to ban orkut.There r misuses in every matters.even mobile services,sms,mms,music site, movie site,all sites having chance to to be used for illicit contacts and performance.people r using yahoo .massnger also for open sexual contact. then why only banning orkut?Block the dirty community. why banning the full site? its very vrey useful and handy for us to keep contact and find out our lost friends and get in touch with family and realatives.To punish evil why punishing good one?Then ban the use of cinema halls,music videos, and all video shops. Block all news papres dat publish sensual pics of actress.

    Anyways “where there is a will, there is a way”. Please log on the the proxy link which will drictly give access to Orkut.com. just log in by clicking the below link a page will appear in which the direct access link to orkut is given just say “GO” and U r there to orkut.com. Isn;t it so simple. here is the link:

  16. I feel so bad since orkut has been banned. I was able to meet so many of my primary schools friends,being able to scrap them,get to know how they are.
    I mean comman orkut is not bad……….worse than that is this site called netlog.com and i think orkut is 100times better than that.I was a daily user of orkut and now i haven’t checked my a/c in nearly a month now.

  28. i agree Orkut was being missused..but isnt that the case with everything around us… what has man not abused till date… and blocking the whole site is simply meaningless… orkut was just an instrument that these perverts used…blocking it does not block the crime..the crime will still go on thru other mediums and will find its way to currpot the innocent..so instead of wasting time blocking these sites and all i feel the cops could use this info as a directive tool to track down such people missusing orkut and should take action on them (plucking off the stem will do do good..get rid of the root)… why should thousand innocent suffer for 100 wrong doers…?? which code of justice is that!!
