Planet Bob tries humor on Taxonomy
Whether you passed or failed your science classes, majority of students still find taxonomy or the science of species discovery, description and classification a very boring subject. That’s about to change for these Taxonomy experts are finding new ways to impart this knowledge.
Planet Bob, a joint video production from Arizona State University’s International Institute for Species Exploration and Media Alchemy Inc., uses humor to draw attention to the serious subject of biodiversity and the science of taxonomy.
Posted on YouTube, it combines live action, state-of-the-art animation, and the vocal talents of venerable TV host Hugh Downs and others to present the mysterious, exciting and surprisingly funny side of taxonomy.
Watching the first video, I don’t think it’s funny at all. Don’t get me wrong, Down Hughes is the perfect host and the video clip is very informative. Maybe adding stand-up comedians like Dave Chappelle might do wonders. Great effort nonetheless.
