SeniorIdol.com: online community for talented 50-plus people
Inspired by the popular American Idol TV show, SeniorIdol.com is a unique social network and online community for people fifty years old and greater.
It offers a clever mix of services for members including discussion forums, news, games, video sharing, a talent resource page with free downloads, and a tribute page to honor family and friends. Visitors can enjoy nostalgic performances on the embedded “Video Flashback” player and can purchase music and video through the site’s affiliation with iTunes and TimeLife.
The project began in concept three years ago when CEO and founder Gareth Edwards, a Computer Systems Manager by profession, wanted to create a medium to enrich the lives of people like his Mom, who had few activities outside of church. Sadly, a few months before the project was completed, she became ill and passed away in January 2007.
