Interviewer ruins Zuckerberg’s keynote speech

sarah lacy Interviewer ruins Zuckerberg’s keynote speechNever underestimate the power of geeks. Well, that’s a simple lesson BusinessWeek columnist Sarah Lacy will never ever forget.

It turned out, the attendees of the South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) were appalled with Lacy’s shallow and lackluster on-stage interview with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg during his keynote address.

According to, Lacy repeatedly interrupted Zuckerberg while he’s answering the questions and constantly interjecting herself at every opportunity. Even though she asked some really interesting questions, the crowd did not seem to notice for they were so annoyed about Lacy’s style described as flirty and trying hard to “put on air of being Zuckerberg’s buddy.”

To make the situation worse, Lacy did not adjust her style even though she knew she was losing the crowd. Instead, she responded angrily and said, “Try doing what I do for a living. It’s not that easy.”

Even the blogosphere is not sympathetic and condemned her actions. Sarah has been the subject of rants in Twitter and Techmeme for this bad interview. I’m not sure how this controversial event will shape the future of her career.

  1. Leo,

When did this kind of rudeness become acceptable public behavior? It’s not cute, it’s not fun. In fact, it’s downright despicable.

Don’t like the content of a panel? WALK UP AND LEAVE. Blog about it, Tweet about it, but don’t sit there and yell at the moderator. This isn’t MST3K or your dorm room, for pete’s sakes.

Carrying on like a boor is just downright rude and unacceptable in my book.
