Social web poised to eradicate spam

foaf.gifTim Berners-Lee, the infamous developer who invented the World Wide Web, believes that social web will function as a verification system to help remove spams or unsolicted emails.

With the semantic web, we are building these trust systems so that you can find out if it comes from someone you identify and what their role is in relation to you: if you actually want to receive email from this person

Trust builds on top of the semantic web because you find that a social network gives you a common language for talking about why we are connected to certain people and why access to certain sites should be granted.

That intelligent system he is referring to is no other than the Friend of a Friend (FOAF), a simple technology that makes it easier to share and use information about people and their activities (eg. photos, calendars, weblogs), to transfer information between Web sites, and to automatically extend, merge and re-use it online.
