Teens pledge to end cyberbullying in honor of Megan Meier

myYearbook.com has partnered with WiredSafety, founded by Internet safety pioneer Parry Aftab, in an effort to end abusive online behaviors.

The 30-day awareness drive educates myYearbook members about the dangers of cyberbullying through the story of Megan Meier, a thirteen-year-old girl who killed herself after being harassed online. In the first 24 hours of launch, more than 100,000 myYearbook members have signed the Megan Pledge and agreed to report and take a stand against cyberbullying. StopCyberBullying.org’s goal is to have 1 million people sign the pledge in 2008.

By taking the pledge, myYearbook members agree to “Think Before They Click,” and learn how to respond if they are the target of a cyberbully.

Though we cannot discount that the Internet has its dark side, this effort is commendable.

  1. so , i dont really know what we are supposed to write here. but i wanna talk about megan & cyber bullying.
    well i think that the parents who pretened to be “josh” was really messed up. why would you even do that? you need to let your own kid handle the drama. you dont need to get involed in it. & to sit there & call her all them names. & you call yourself adults? im pretty sure that your not. that was childish & lammmme. this is just my opinion. i really sorry to the parents who lost there daughter because of this. i dont know how you handle it. i wouldnt be able to. well stay strong and keep talking to kids about cyber bullying. its the right thinggg.

    now cyber bullying;
    its wrong & it makes kids kill themselves. in class we are learning about this & i have heard many stories about kids killing themselves over kids making fun of them over the internet. its really not right. next time think twice before you do it. because im pretty sure you wouldnt like it if someone was doing it to you.
