Facebook introduces Fan Box website widget for important people

Facebook has announced a new website widget that allows information from Facebook Pages to be embedded elsewhere on the web.

In fact, the service isn’t restricted to “important people” but the announcement makes a big issue out of the celebrities and big organizations who are using it: Lance Armstrong, Kings of Leon, Lenny Kravitz, Roger Federer, ABCNews, Newsweek…

In reality, anyone who can embed some rudimentary JavaScript on their web site can do it.

The widget works thanks to Facebook Connect, with the idea that fans of your web site get to hook up to your Facebook Page too — and vice-versa. I’ve never had a lot of success with fan pages and web integration but I guess if you’re someone popular it could work for you.
