Google, Asus Reportedly Preparing $100 Nexus Tablet For Christmas

Rumors are starting to come out of a new Nexus tablet that will be significantly more affordable than the already low-priced Google Nexus 7 tablets.

The Digitimes has reported that Google and Asus are already developing a new Nexus tablet that will only cost $100. This new Nexus tablet is being prepared for release this Christmas season. Digitimes got the information from sources that it did not name. But they claim the sources are from Asus’ own supply chain. The plan, they revealed, is to further slim down the Nexus tablet and then offer two different models – one that costs $100, and the other one remaining at the same $200 price point.

The Google Nexus 7 has been a hit with consumers because it has managed to pack a lot of top of the line features on a tablet that has such an affordable price – a quad core Tegra processor, 1GB of RAM, GPS, and NFC. The few criticisms it got were using Corning Glass instead of the more popular and also seen as more durable Gorilla Glass, no 3G connectivity, and lack of a high quality rear-facing camera.

Manufacturing an extremely affordable $100 Nexus tablet can help strengthen Google’s position as the top-of-mind brand in the budget tablet market. If rumors indeed turn out to be true, then you can expect that it’s going to be a huge hit for Christmas.
