The iPhone 5 is Here
Today, Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 5 at a press conference held at the Yerba Buena Center for The Arts in San Francisco.
The new phone was well received by the audience even though there was really nothing surprising about the phone at this point. The iPhone 5 has been the subject of many rumors and speculations and a lot of the rumors turned out to be true so the official unveiling was a little anti-climactic.
The new iPhone will sport a larger screen, measuring 4 incehs. It will also have a Retina display of 1136 x 640 pixels. Apple is already claiming that it is the worlds “most advanced display.” The display has been modified in that a layer has been removed from the screen. The touch sensors are now incorporated into the display.
The form factor, which is slimmer and taller but the same width has already been seen in past leaked photos of the iPhone 5 case. So there are no surprises in that department.
A more powerful A6 processor is now in the heart of the iPhone 5. It’s twice as fast as the A5 but 22 percent smaller. IT also provides 200 percent the graphics power of the iPhone 4S. For connectivity, the iPhone 5 will come with LTE built in. It will also support dual band WiFi. The rear camera now has 8 megapixels with backside illumination, hybrid IR filter, and five-element lens. A panorama view has also been added. Video is still at 1080P but now has image stabilization functions. Lastly, rumors of a new connector has been confirmed. The new 30-pin connector, called Lightning, is reversible and is said to be more durable.
The rollout will begin on September 21.
