eBay and PayPal increase protection for buyers and sellers

ebay.jpgeBay wants you to feel secured shopping and wants you to do it using PayPal. The online auction company announced improved protections for buyers and sellers on eBay.com.

For the first time, buyers who pay with PayPal will be protected on eligible transactions for 100 percent of an item’s purchase price, with no cap on coverage. In addition, all U.S. eBay sellers will receive improved seller protection for eligible transactions when they get paid with PayPal.

eBay to open site

eBay Inc. is opening up to third parties to integrate applications directly onto its site. This move will give developers unprecedented access to eBay’s community of professional sellers, creating more opportunities for developers to market their tools and giving sellers a wider variety of sales optimization applications.

Developers interested in building applications on eBay.com will be required to meet site standards for trusted buying and selling experiences. Once approved, developers have an opportunity for their applications to be discovered by business sellers on eBay.com, and will be in a position to monetize their application with subscription-based revenue.

eBay and MercExchange reach settlement agreement on patent row

eBay Inc. has agreed to a settlement with MercExchange, LLC to dismiss all claims and appeals stemming from the patent lawsuit filed by MercExchange in September of 2001. eBay Inc. and MercExchange had been engaged in litigation over MercExchange’s patents and eBay’s online auctions and fixed price-related ecommerce operations.

As part of the settlement, eBay will purchase all three patents involved in the lawsuit, as well as some additional related technology and inventions and a license to another search-related patent portfolio that was not asserted in the lawsuit. These assets will allow eBay to further enhance its operations and trust and safety efforts on its ecommerce sites.

Further terms of the settlement are confidential and were not disclosed.
