Cyworld offers video uploading and editing for members

July 28, 2023 By Cristina Ledesma

cyworld.jpgCyworld USA today launched new features to enhance its impressive platform of interactive services– setting it apart from other social networks available for young consumers. The addition of the Cyworld Video Studio and Plaza, a forum for members to upload, edit, mix and share videos or photos, exemplifies Cyworld’s continued efforts to pioneer ways for its members to capture and share their lives with friends and family. Based upon the highly successful video launch of sister site Cyworld Korea, developers in the US worked with San Diego based Eyespot, developer of next generation media mixing playgrounds, to incorporate online editing features in response to a demand from Cyworld members for interactive tools that allow them to personalize their content sharing.

“We’re all about providing our community a platform that allows them to express their real world,” said Michael Streefland, Cyworld USA Vice President of Marketing and Sales. “This generation in particular has a strong need to be heard, share their ideas, and reinterpret existing conventions. Everything we develop needs to take it up a notch with ‘let-me-participate-too’ online features that incorporate their own ideas, creativity, and desire to connect with others through personalized self-expression.”

Linkin Park celebrates new album release with fans in Virtual MTV

July 28, 2023 By Cristina Ledesma

linkinpark.jpgLinkin Park’s long-awaited third album “Minutes to Midnight” hit the stores today, and tomorrow members of the band will host a virtual party within Virtual MTV (vMTV) to meet with their fans and discuss their latest project.

Vocalist Chester Bennington and other band members will make special appearances at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT on Wednesday, May 16th in vMTV’s virtual version of Club Hyde, the trendy Hollywood Hills hotspot. To join the party, fans simply need to go to www.vmtv.com, download the free application, create their own stylized avatar and head over to the club to meet Bennington.

vMTV from MTV Networks’ Music Group is a collection of popular virtual worlds that bridge the gap between television programming and emerging virtual world space. Bennington will be represented in vMTV by a specially created avatar, allowing him to interact one-on-one with their fans around the world in an environment that replicates one of the hottest scenes in Hollywood, and will be joined by another band member in-world. The approach in vMTV represents just one of the new ways forward-thinking bands like Linkin Park are connecting with their fans.

Over 15 billion minutes of voice delivered in Second Life

June 26, 2023 By Dennis Bouchand

Linden Lab, creator of the virtual world Second Life, revealed that it has delivered over 15 billion minutes of voice services, demonstrating the rapid growth and broad adoption of VoIP in Second Life. The company also revealed its product roadmap for the remainder of 2009, such as introducing new features that will enhance the Second Life platform and provide unique monetization opportunities. With 700,000 unique users consuming more than a billion minutes a month, voice has become an integral component of the Second Life experience.

Over 50% of Second Life users, a group that includes a broad range of consumers, educators and large enterprises, use voice as part of their everyday inworld experience. In addition to making education, business meetings, simulations, training and casual conversations more meaningful, realistic and fluid, voice is also a key component of Linden Lab’s business model and strategy moving forward. With several key product launches scheduled for the latter half of 2009, Linden Lab expects this rapid adoption to continue while also adding several new revenue streams for the company.

In addition to revealing its roadmap for the rest of the year, Linden Lab is also introducing a new service called AvaLine that enables residents to receive voice calls inworld from an outside number. Greatly extending the reach of the Second Life experience, AvaLine lets friends, customers, colleagues and business associates connect to the Second Life viewer via a landline, cell phone or VoIP application.
