WordPress.com passes 1m blogs, adds domain e-mail

April 28, 2023 By Thord Daniel Hedengren

1 million blogsCongratulations to the good folks over at WordPress.com on them reaching over 1 million blogs! I tried to keep an eye on it but this was as close as I could get…

Expect a formal announcement from Matt & Co. later on.

In other WordPress.com news, they have added domain mapping for e-mail using Google Apps. That means that if you connect your e-mail to your WordPress.com blog they can give you access via Google Apps, as in Gmail for your domain. Nice.

CBS partners with community sites, social application providers

April 28, 2023 By Cristina Ledesma

cbs.jpgCBS Interactive announced that it is partnering with leading community-building websites and social application providers to add greater user functionality to the CBS Audience Network. The announcement includes deals with new companies as well as expanded relationships with existing CBS Audience Network partners. Through these online properties and social application providers, users can easily incorporate CBS clips into their profiles, websites, blogs, widgets, wikis, and community pages. This enables them to discover and personalize CBS content and to use it to communicate with others. At the same time, CBS gains promotional value online while learning about its audience.

“Today, we are taking the CBS Audience Network directly to the user,” said Quincy Smith, President, CBS Interactive. “In launching the CBS Audience Network we solidified our position as the most widely distributed professional content provider on the Web thanks to our great video distribution partners. We now want to empower our audience to be creative and deepen their experience with our content by allowing them to share and embed CBS-provided clips to their blogs, wikis, widgets, community sites and whatever else gets thrown our way. We are delighted to have so many quality partners — established and start ups — helping to bring CBS content to the online community.”

New online partners adding increased functionality to CBS Audience Network include: Automattic, Clearspring, DAVE Networks, Goowy Media, Meebo, MeeVee, MuseStorm, Ning, RockYou!, Slide, VideoEgg, Voxant, and vSocial. [Read more…]

WordPress 2.2 is out, no tagging support

April 28, 2023 By Thord Daniel Hedengren

WordpressWordPress 2.2 is out, the first release in this new faster release schedule that the developers have adapted. It has lost its tagging feature since they wanted to make it better, it’s slated for 2.3 which is due in September.

There’s a lot of fixes in the 2.2 release, 244 closed tickets it appears, and a few new features. Widgets is an integrated part of WordPress now, something I’m not too fond of but fine, I won’t bitch about it. Mac users will be happy to know that the WYSIWYG editor should work in the next version of Safari. Oh joy, right?

Anyway, check out the launch post and grab it if you will. I haven’t updated any of my blogs yet so I don’t know if you should expect trouble, but I haven’t heard anything yet…

By the way, 2.2 is named “Getz” and Matt is treating us with Got That Swing over at his blog. Happy listening.

5 Tips To Successfully Connect a Blog To an Event

April 10, 2023 By 901am

One of the more difficult aspects of creating a successful event is having some sort of consistent blogging and advertising to go along with it. It’s a particular kind of skill set that is a little hard to wrap your mind around if it isn’t something you’ve done before.

To counteract that lack of experience, think about the following five tips next time you want to specifically attach a blog to a particular event: choose the right setting from the very beginning, follow consistent rules concerning images, match the tone of the event to the tone of the blog, be sure to keep size and scale appropriate with the purpose, and find other events that have been successful in the past to emulate.

Choose the Right Special Event Setting

The best event in the world is going to fall flat if you don’t find the right special events setting. This is your most important first decision, and with that decision, you’ll also be starting to consider associating a blog with it, and giving yourself a push in the right direction when it comes to online marketing as well.
