Niches to drive social networks in 2008

May 26, 2023 By Leo Blanco 2 Comments

sagezone.gifAccording to a report by research firm Experian entitled “The Impact of Social Networking in the UK”, this year marks the rise of the so-called Web 2.0 clique communities or social networks focused on a particular market segment.

Social network sites appealing to mass market may no longer enjoy the hype but the research did not say if it will decline or steadily grow. As clique communities emerge, it will become attractive to powerful individuals like business executives as well as exclusive in its membership. In short, quality will once again win against quantity.

One example of clique communities is SagaZone, the social network dedicated for people above 50 years old. ResidentHQ is another example for it is solely focused on networking with luxury property developers.

However, it does not mean it will replace mass-market sites like Facebook and MySpace. Instead, specialist sites will co-exist and foster inter-community relationships because the contents will drip-feed to other sites as well.
