Apple’s latest update iOS5 has created a great buzz in the entire mobile industry. Some of the mobile phone fanatics claim that it is just a catch-up to the offerings already provided by Android. Some gadgets experts even declare the Samsung Galaxy S II is the best android Smartphone in the market.

On the other hand the Apple fanatics are no ways ready to agree that Android is better that iOS5. This competition between world’s two most popular operating systems will get fiercer day by day. The head to head comparisons between the gadgets running on these two OS will give more innovative and advanced gadgets to the world. In this short editorial we will discuss why Android is still considered better that iOS5.

Excellent voice commands

If you have used the barking voice commands of the Android Smartphone, you will come to know that iOS voice commands are very limited. The voice commands in the android Smartphone is fabulous, right from the searching to executing the commands, everything is magnificent. You can dictate your email as well as the text messages with your Android Smartphone. Just speaking to your Smartphone you can actually get directions also. Android Slips Past iPhone as the No. 2 Most Selling Smartphone

January 6, 2023 By Arnold Zafra

According to NPD’s wireless market research for Q1 2010, the Android OS is now the no. 2 most selling smartphone in the U.S. next to RIM’s BlackBerry devices. But what’s more interesting than this is the fact that Google’s smartphone OS has slipped past Apple’s iPhone OS. The report was based on unit sales to consumers from January to March 2010.

Alright here are the exact figures – RIM unit sales is at 36%, Android at 28% and iPhone at 21%. While this maybe a great news for Google, it is not surprising to me at all. Why? Because the iPhone has alrady saturated its target market. Apple has achieved what it wants to achieve in terms of sales and distribution of the iPhone 3G and 3GS and is probably now well on its way to introducing a new version of the iPhone OS (version 4.0, anyone?).  And consumers know this. That’s why new users who are planning to get a new smartphones are probably waiting for a new iPhone or at least a new OS to be released.

Compare that with the Android phones, wherein one new model is being introduced after another. According to the NPD report, strong sales of the Droid and Droid Eris catapulted the Android’s sales to where it is right now. But those are just two of the most popular Android devices. Certainly there are more. And their sales figures, no matter how small contribute to the Android’s overall sales performance.

Another reason is carrier support. AT&T solely carries the iPhone while other mobile carriers in the U.S. are one way or the other helping boost the Android’s sales.

Will Android slipped past the BlackBerry as well? I don’t think so. When it comes to smartphones RIM has owned the market. And with the impending release of the BlackBerry OS 6.0, I expect RIM to continue this dominance.

More Users are Planning to Buy Android Phones

January 2, 2023 By Arnold Zafra

In a few hours from now, Google is about to announce its Nexus One phone amidst spectators and media pundits. So, it is interesting to note ChangeWave’s December 9-14 survey of around 4,068 consumers showing that 4% of the respondents who own a smartphone are using Google Android OS and 21% of those respondents who are planning to buy a smartphone said that they will most likely get an Android phone.

Whether that Android phone is going to be the Motorola DROID or the Google Nexus phone remains to be seen. But the good news is that the Motorola DROID seemed to have successfully paved the way for the Android OS to fully roll out to the smart phone market, something which the previous Android phones failed to achieve.

Looking at the changes in the data from previous ChangeWave survey – the 21% of respondents who plan to get the Android phone equals to 15% increase from the survey in September while those who are currently using phone running on on Google Android equals to to a 3% increase from September data.

Another interesting to note from the survey results is the fact that among the smartphones, it is only the Android phone and RIM/Blackberry OS  buyers which increased from September to December 2009.  Future buyers of the iPhone, Windows Mobile phone and Palm OS/Web OS have all decreased.

And things will definitely change once the Nexus One phone is finally announced and hopefully released the soonest time possible. With the Nexus One hype rapidly building up, it is undoubtedly going to be an Android OS year, unless of course Apple comes up with something new – iPhone 4.0 perhaps?
