More Than Half of Teens, Aged 13 to 17, Now Own Smartphones

Based on new research conducted by Nielsen, it was revealed that of teenagers aged 13 to 17 years old who live in the United States, 58 percent own a smartphone. This is a very significant increase from the 36 percent saturation rate that was measured just a year ago.

The research has also shown that the largest incidence of smartphone ownership is at the 25 to 34 age group, where 74 percent own a smartphone, an increase from the 59 percent measured a year ago.

Based on data collected, as of July of this year, more than half of all mobile phone subscribers in the US (55.5 percent) are smartphone owners. This is a 14.5 percent increase from a year ago. [Read more…]

Calls Least Used Functions By Smartphone Users

When mobile phones were invented, it was to address one specific function – to make calls wirelessly wherever you are. With the evolution of mobile phones, more and more functions were added to it. With the latest generation of smartphones, a lot of functions have been incorporated into the device but at the disadvantage of other functions. Surprisingly, one of those functions is the ability to make calls.

A survey of 2,000 smartphone users recently conducted by UK based carrier O2, revealed that users of smartphones spend more time performing different functions with their mobile devices rather than making phone calls. [Read more…]

Intel Smartphone Now Runs Android 4.0

Intel may dominate the PC and laptop sectors with its range of processors built for these specific hardware but when it comes to the mobile device segment of the market – which is exploding like crazy – it has not been able to gain much of a headway. For this segment of the market, ARM processors are the acknowledged king.

Boeing to Manufacture an Android Powered Smartphone

Here’s some news that totally comes from left field.

Boeing, the world-renowned aeronautics giant, is going to enter the mobile industry. The company has announced that it will be launching its own smartphone soon.

The report about Boeing’s smartphone plans appeared in National Defense, a  trade magazine. Boeing hopes to release the Android powered smartphone later this year. Development of the device is still ongoing. [Read more…]

Panasonic to Introduce Eluga To Europe

There was a time when mobile phones made by Panasonic was readily available all over the world. But the Japanese company decided to leave the worldwide market in 2006 and just concentrated on manufacturing and selling phones in Japan, where it has had a lot of success. Currently, 20 percent of the mobile phones in Japan are made by Panasonic.

After years of catering exclusively to the Japanese market, Panasonic is now ready to return to the global market. The company announced its intent last year with news that it will begin selling smartphones in Europe again this year. [Read more…]
