Downtime or inability to access a website is a very frustrating experience for many online users; especially if you’re doing something you really love such as watching videos or updating Facebook profile.
In a recent test using Pingdom’s uptime monitoring service, it turned out that Bebo has the most downtime among 14 leading social networks from the period January 1 to February 25, 2008. For the past 2 months it has more than 12 hours of downtime. Pingdom suggests the cause might be Bebo’s new open application platform launched last December.
This is indeed a big issue for any social network playing a catch up game against established players. On the other hand, downtime of popular networks MySpace and Facebook are all within acceptable limits.
More than anything, we live in a world where the attention span and interest of online users are very unpredictable. That’s why more efforts are needed to keep them hook to our site and avoid unnecessary disruptions.
