Canadian geek breaks into Facebook’s security

September 8, 2023 By Leo Blanco

facebook logoHere’s another reason why you must be careful when it comes to social networking. Recently, a Canadian computer technician has found a way to circumvent Facebook’s privacy control to access images and personal information even if the privacy setting is limited to a few people.

According to a news report, Byron Ng’s super cool trick has given him access to private photos of Paris Hilton at the Emmy Awards, office gatherings, spring break parties and even the personal photo album of its co-founder Mark Zucerkberg.

Unfortunately, the tales of stalking came to an abrupt end after Facebook quickly rectified this loophole. Then again, Ng is just one of the many gifted computer experts out there who can find ways to breach security and gain access to confidential information.

What I’m trying to say is never put too much trust on any site even if there’s assurance that your information tightly secured. Be responsible enough to know what images to share and contents to write. Otherwise, you might end up with so much regrets.

Yahoo! supports OpenSocial, joins Google and MySpace

September 8, 2023 By Dennis Bouchand

opensocial.pngYahoo!, MySpace, and Google have agreed to form the OpenSocial Foundation to ensure the neutrality and longevity of OpenSocial as an open, community-governed specification for building social applications across the web. Yahoo!’s support of OpenSocial and role as a founding member of the new foundation are landmarks for the rapidly growing specification which will now offer developers the potential to connect with more than 500 million people worldwide.

The OpenSocial Foundation will be an independent non-profit entity with a formal intellectual property and governance framework; related assets will be assigned to the new organization by July 1, 2008. The foundation will provide transparency and operational guidelines around technology, documentation, intellectual property, and other issues related to the evolution of the OpenSocial platform, while also ensuring all stakeholders share influence over its future direction.

Shine A Light makes its debut via imeem

September 8, 2023 By Cristina Ledesma

Shine A Light, the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s new documentary about The Rolling Stones, is making its US debut today on imeem, a week before it’s available in stores on April 1.

Shine a Light, which opens in theaters nationally on April 4, is a look at The Rolling Stones’s live performances through the eyes of Martin Scorsese. The Oscar-winning director captured the band during two intimate performances at New York’s Beacon Theatre in the fall of 2006. During the performances, the Stones were joined onstage by several special guests, including Buddy Guy, the White Stripes’ Jack White and Christina Aguilera.

This is the latest example of mainstream bands choosing social media outlets like imeem as the places to reach their fans with new music.
