Mozilla Releases Mobile Firefox for Maemo, Android to Follow

March 31, 2023 By Arnold Zafra 1 Comment

Mozilla just released their first mobile Firefox browser, running on Maemo platform. In case you’re not aware one of the mobile devices sporting this platform is the computer-like Nokia N900 handset. So, if you’re one of the probably few users of this handset, you might want to visit firefox.com/mobile using your N900.  Or if you want to be cautious about it, check out the FAQ first.

Better yet, check out these key features first, to help you decide whether you should install  the mobile Firefox on your Nokia N900. Firefox for Mobile lets you:

  • Go to your favorite sites in just a couple of keystrokes with intelligent and personalized searching
  • Sync your Firefox tabs, history, bookmarks and passwords between your desktop and mobile device for a seamless browsing experience
  • Customize your Firefox by adding small pieces of functionality, like games and news readers, that help make the mobile Web browser your own
  • Get maps and information relevant to your location
  • View open tabs as thumbnails to easily identify and select the Web page you’d like to go to next
  • Get an Instant Web Site ID and easily access and edit security settings

What’s great about Firefox Mobile is that it’s probably the first mobile web browser that supports browser add-ons. Yeah, I envy  you N900 users and I’m seriously hoping that Mozilla releases an Android version, specifically for Nexus One soon.

The mobile Firefox add-ons let you cusztomize the browser by adding extra features such as AdBlock Plus, URL Fixer, TwitterBar, language translators and definitely more. In fact, there are already more than 40 of these add-ons that you can use after you’ve installed mobile Firefox.

So, if you’re a Nokia N900 user, check out Mozilla Firefox mobile now. And if you’re an Android phone user like me, let’s wait a while for the Android version to come out.

Nokia Ovi Store Now Available for N900 Users

March 31, 2023 By Arnold Zafra Leave a Comment

Let’s not forget that smartphones are not confine to the Google Nexus One or the iPhone. Nokia has it’s own smartphone too and its called N900. And in case you’re not aware, the N900 is powered by the Linux-based Maemo5 mobile operating systems, making this Nokia smartphone almost like your usual mini internet device.

So, if you’re a Nokia N900 user, you’ll be glad to know that the Nokia Ovi Store is now available for N900 handsets. What? You don’t know what the Nokia Ovi Store is? Well, if you’re an iPhone user like me, you can think of the Nokia Ovi Store as the iTunes Apps Store for Nokia high-end devices.

With the Nokia Ovi Store now accessible from N900 devices, you can now download apps and games and install it as quickly as possible to your N900 devices. The Nokia Ovi Store that you access from your N900’s home screen is tailored for the unit’s screen real estate giving you an organized way of browsing for these apps and games.

Some of the nice mobile apps that you can download from the Nokia Ovi Store include Qik video app and TuneWiki, a lyric-search app. You can also download various themes and other personalization stuff from the Nokia Ovi Store to make your N900 unit truly your own.

Nokia Pirates Nintendo Games in N900 Demo?

March 31, 2023 By Mike Abundo Leave a Comment

Nokia N900 SNES EmulationOh Nokia, how far you’ve fallen from your once-lofty mobile gaming ambitions. The Nokia Mosh repository carried so many wild and wacky games — until you threw away your entire developer community in favor of your clean and shiny Ovi app store. Now you can barely give away top-tier titles for free. N-Gage held so much promise as a mobile online gaming service, boasting such big titles as Tomb Raider and The Sims and Metal Gear Solid — until you unceremoniously killed the whole thing.

Now, to demonstrate the gaming capabilities of your new N900 smartphone, you’ve resorted to running classic games on retro console emulators. Never mind the sheer absurdity of using software emulation to sell the native capabilities of a piece of hardware. Sure, emulators are legal, and hardcore mobile gaming aficionados love emulators, but the game ROMs in your promo video are of questionable legality.

Now Nintendo’s thinking of taking you to court for copyright infringement. Considering that you’re the world’s largest cellphone manufacturer, that’s pretty frickin’ embarrassing.
