Android’s White Knight Has Arrived. It Calls Itself HTC EVO?

January 6, 2023 By darnell

Like their iFoes before them, it looks like Android lovers will finally have a lighter phone to compete against the ever so elusive white iPhone 4.

HTC is releasing a white EVO 4G phone, which may appeal to the geeks who want to stand out from the masses and appear “hip” at the same time.

Now available in black and exclusive white online and in select stores.

Get ready for a rich, mobile Internet experience at Sprint 4G** speeds. The feature-packed HTC EVO 4G gives you the power to quickly download music, photos, files or videos in seconds. Stream video or create your own content and upload your creations to your favorite social network. (Best Buy)

Emphasis: Mine.

Unfortunately it looks as if HTC may be suffering from white smartphone shortage (something Apple is dealing with) which may have something to do with demand or material (or perhaps both?).

While many of my Android friends will probably clamor over this beauty, personally I find white smartphones (regardless of manufacturer) more of a irritation due their ability to attract “stains” due to their lighter color.

Either way its good to finally see HTC attempt to match Apple’s white iBeauty in the wild, even if the former lacks FaceTime.

Google Creates “Android For Dummies” For The Rest Of Us

January 6, 2023 By darnell

For those of you who have aspirations of creating your own Android app yet are not fluent in the language of the geek, Google has announced a new program called App Inventor that allows the masses to create their own Android apps without having to learn a single line of code.

App Inventor is a new tool in Google Labs that makes it easy for anyone—programmers and non-programmers, professionals and students—to create mobile applications for Android-powered devices. And today, we’re extending invitations to the general public.

For many people, their mobile phone—and access to the Internet—is always within reach. App Inventor for Android gives everyone, regardless of programming experience, the opportunity to control and reshape their communication experience. We’ve observed people take pride in becoming creators of mobile technology and not just consumers of it. (Official Google Blog)

By lowering the barrier of entry, it looks like Google is hoping to increase the number of apps within Android Market in order to catch up with its rival, Apple whose walled garden of apps dwarfs the ever so popular Android Market. [Read more…]

iPad Beware, The Android Tablets Will Soon Be Here!

January 6, 2023 By darnell

Unlike it’s iPhone 4 brother, the iPad continues to enjoy success in the hands of everyone who possesses one.

Unfortunately for Apple, it’s rivals are once again full of iJealousy, which means that we may see a decent Android tablet (pictured on the right) later on this year.

Samsung’s next buzzy product launch will likely be its tablet computer, dubbed Galaxy Tab. The touchscreen device is said to sport two cameras for video conferencing, as well as GPS, Wi-Fi and a 3G data connection. Because it also runs Android, the tablet will be able to communicate and share content and applications with Samsung’s Galaxy S phones. Samsung says the tablet will go on sale before October. Is HTC Powering The Android Revolution?

January 6, 2023 By darnell

Despite the fact that Apple’s iPhone 4 is still outselling its green robot rivals (despite Cupertino’s design flaw), it looks like HTC’s embrace of “all things Android” is starting to pay off (quite literally).

HTC has posted revenues of NT$ 23.858 billion (US$741.392 million) for June 2010, up 66.68% from a year earlier. Second-quarter revenues totaled NT$60.532 billion up 58.45% on year. (DigiTimes) [Read more…]

Will Android Flash Apps Make iPhone Apps Irrelevant?

January 6, 2023 By darnell

Despite Android’s growing popularity, the mobile OS App market is still dwarfed by its iRival despite the former being more open.

Now with the arrival of the Droid X (by Motorola), Android may finally be able to surpass its autocratic nemesis by bypassing native code and embracing the web. [Read more…]
