Government Agency To Ditch BlackBerry Devices

The number of Blackberry users jumping ship at the corporate level is getting more and more significant. Just this week, Halliburton announced that it will be ditching the Blackberry as the preferred communication device in the company in favor of iPhones and iPads. Now the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has announced that it will begin deploying iPhones and iPads to its employees by May, replacing the Blackberry devices that the Agency’s employees used to use.

According to a report by Bloomberg, About 3,000 of the Agency’s 20,000 fulltime workers and contractors use a BlackBerry device. The report failed to mention how many of the workers will be getting the new Apple products. [Read more…]

Lawsuit Filed For RIM’s Use of BBM Brand

The amount of lawsuits that we’ve been reporting here at 901AM is getting to be quite a lot. But then lawsuits are very interesting news to say the least. We’ve reported significantly about the constant exchange of lawsuits between Samsung and Apple. So any new lawsuits are kind of a breath of fresh air.

For example, Research in Motion is also embroiled in some legal kinks. A company, BBM Canada, has filed a lawsuit against RIM claiming the mobile phone manufacturer and service provider is infringing on the trademark of BBM Canada by using “BBM”, which stands for Blackberry Messenger, which is RIM’s very popular mobile messenger service that is used by Blackberry phone users all over the world. Underperforming Playbook costing RIM Half a Billion Dollars

The potential goldmine that is the tablet market is luring a lot of companies into trying out their luck with this new market niche and hoping that they can become as successful as Apple, the company that recreated this whole sector. Research in Motion (RIM) was one of the companies that thought that it can replicate its early success with its BlackBerry brand with a tablet and released the BlackBerry Playbook April of this year. Hardware Failure Rate Highest Among Android Phones

Android has suffered a serious knock with news that it is more unreliable compared to the iPhone and BlackBerry.

In a study conducted by WDS, a company that provides specialist managed services for the wireless industry, it was discovered that Android phones were more likely to suffer from hardware problems compared iOS, Blackberry and Windows 7 devices.

The study was conducted over the course of a year and focused on customer service support calls. About 600,000 tech support calls were part of the study. Of that number, 14 percent were calls for Android phones that suffered a hardware failure. This is followed closely by Windows phones, which accounted for 11 percent of the calls. [Read more…]

Almost 20 Percent of Blackberry Users Want to Switch To Other Phones

In a business setting, Blackberry phones are usually the preferred smartphones mainly because of the great integration of push email services on to the device, not to mention Blackberry Messenger, which makes messaging effortless. But what do you do if the very reasons you have a Blackberry fail you?

This is what happened to millions of Blackberry users when the Blackberry network suffered a massive outage that lasted for three days. The bad experience was strong enough for some Blackberry users to actually consider transferring to other brands.

Based on a survey conducted by Kelkoo, a price comparison site based in Europe, about 19 percent of one thousand respondents said they will move to another smartphone manufacturer. [Read more…]
