AOL Latino launches new hub on immigration

aollatino.pngAOL Latino today launched a new immigration hub for the Hispanic-American community. The site offers users access to immigration news, blogs and message boards, as well as links to government resources, views of presidential candidates and information of immigration laws and policies.

Among the features of the immigration hub:

• The latest immigration news from a variety of news sources;
• Articles and blogs from members of the American Immigration Law Foundation;
• Quizzes in areas such as what to expect on the Citizenship Test;
• Links to governmental resources for renewing Green Cards or gaining permanent citizenship, etcetera;
• Message boards and chats;
• Interactive features that let users engage in conversations around the content.

Friendster deploys Developer Program; Launches directory of 180 applications

friendster1.pngFriendster, Inc. launched a directory of over 180 applications, enabling its more than 56 million global users to easily discover, add and use applications on and off the Friendster.com website. These applications, called “widgets” throughout the industry, have been integrated into the Friendster user experience by developers leveraging Friendster’s Developer Program, released as a pilot program on October 25, 2007 and now fully deployed.

To date, six companies have piloted the Friendster Developer Program in the last several months including Rockyou, Slide.com, Clearspring, Imeem, Jangl, and Gbox.

Clearspring launches Widget Ad Network

Clearspring’s Widget Ad Network provides media publishers an easy and scalable solution for monetizing digital content across social networking sites, start pages and blogs, by creating an ad network to serve ads within the publishers’ widgets. Clearspring is the first widget syndication platform to provide publishers a single source for widget creation, content distribution, in-widget advertising sales, ad serving and performance tracking and reporting.

The Widget Ad Network also enables advertisers to leverage premium publishers’ content to promote their messages across today’s most popular social networks, start pages and blogs via both custom and standardized in-widget advertising. The Clearspring-enabled ads will live within widget content that end-users engage with on an ongoing basis, extending the lifetime value of such ads far beyond the typical run of service ‘sidebar’ ads currently prevailing on social media web sites.

With Clearspring’s new service, publishers can determine which advertisers will be allowed to place ads within their widgets, and Clearspring’s domain blacklisting and tracking tool will provide both publishers and advertisers greater control and visibility into where the widgets, and hence the ads, are placed. Today, the Widget Ad Network offers six different in-widget advertising formats.

Clearspring’s Widget Ad Network is built on Adify’s Build Your Own Network (BYON) platform.

TripIt automatically syncs travel itineraries with personal calendars

Travelers simply forward their travel confirmation emails to [email protected] and TripIt automatically builds a master online itinerary. Each personalized itinerary features the trip details, confirmation numbers, locations, weather, maps, city guides, OpenTable restaurant reservations and more. TripIt is accessible from any PC as well as mobile phones. And, TripIt is also a community for friends, family and associates to share travel plans with each other.
