New York Times Blackberry App Discontinued

The New York Times developed an app that for accessing New York Times content on various devices. But this week, the publication announced that it was going to stop supporting the New York Times app for BlackBerry devices. The reason? There aren’t enough users who use their app.

The decision to stop operating the app is because there are not enough users of the app. It’s not because the New York Times is unpopular. In fact, its apps for Android and the iOS are doing quite well. The anemic usage is attributed to only a few BlackBerry users who are going to the BlackBerry App World and downloading it. Translation App Word Lens Now Available For Android Devices

When it first appeared in 2010, Word Lens astounded everyone with its amazing technology. The translation app, developed by Quest Visual, allows the user to translate foreign languages into English or English into various foreign languages all in real time. All the user needs to do is to point to the text that needs to be translated with their device’s camera. The user doesn’t need to type the words or speak into the mic. The camera and the app will do all of the work for the user. The user will get the translation – and it’s placed on whatever sign or material the original text was taken from. New Personal Assistant App Friday Released on Google Play

A new app recently debuted at the Google Play store and it has the potential to actually become extremely popular.

The app, called, Friday, is a personal assistant app. How does it work? Friday basically locates the different sources of information on your device – your Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, your email, your text messages, phonecalls, even photos – then scrunches it up into a seamless repository of all this data. Amazon Opens Its Appstore to International Developers

Amazon made an announcement that it is opening its Appstore to apps made in other countries. This is the company’s first overt move to really go international with the Appstore, which was officially opened in the United States a year ago. According to Amazon, developers from European countries like France, Italy, Germanty, the UK and Spain can now submit apps to the Amazon Appstore for consideration. The company has also teased that it will further open up this opportunity to other countries in the future.

Many pundits think that this move by Amazon to open up the Appstore to other countries is an important step towards Amazon being able to sell its hit Kindle Fire tablet to markets outside the United States. [Read more…]

Evernote Acquires Penultimate

Evernote’s growth looks like it’s not going to slow down anytime soon. The company recently got $70 million in its last round of fundraising and now enjoys a $1 billion valuation. The hit productivity and memory platform is now hard at work building up its presence and its newest move is to acquire Penultimate.

Penultimate is an iPad handwriting app and it is now officially a part of Evernote. According to Evernote CEO Phil Libin and Penultimate CEO Ben Zotto, Evernote’s acquisition of Penultimate will benefit both companies. Penultimate will remain an independent app (which means it will be developed separately from Evernote) but at the same time it will also be integrated into Evernote, making it a native application.
