Tagged.com may be sued over alleged social network spam

tagged-logoOne of the world’s largest social networks, Tagged.com, has been accused of spamming by using the email address books of its members without permission to send misleading marketing messages.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo believes that Tagged.com had taken “the address books and identities of millions of people” who had thus been “forced into the embarrassing position of having to apologize to all their e-mail contacts.”

Tagged’s CEO Greg Tseng responded by saying that the social network only uses the same practises employed by many other services: that of making it very clear that members can automatically invite friends via email but that it’s completely opt-in. [Read more…]

Facebook introduces Fan Box website widget for important people

Facebook has announced a new website widget that allows information from Facebook Pages to be embedded elsewhere on the web.

NoitWorld.com: online auctioning meets social networking

noitworld-logoNoitWorld.com has been open for just over a month now, and claims to offer a “cooler” and more “consumer friendly online marketplace” than the likes of eBay, with a major selling point being that it’s designed to integrate with popular social media services.

Cofounder Todd Foret (a US Army veteran, hence the site’s name — “noit” means cool or hip in US Military speak) says that because many Internet users spend so long on social media sites, it makes sense to provide tools for buyers and sellers to easily share stuff that way.

So, cool merchandise can be propagated across the likes of Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. [Read more…]

Physicians using Web 2.0 tools to help with diagnosis

I’m all for social media and networks so it wasn’t a huge shock to discover that a lot of doctors, particularly junior ones, are consulting online resources in order to help them diagnose patients and to improve their medical knowledge.

Naturally that doesn’t mean they’re not qualified to do the job, though I really hope they’re choosing the right online media and resource web sites before dishing out advice and medication to patients. After all, we already know the Internet is a hypochondriac’s dream. [Read more…]
