Enhancing the Movie Theater Experience Using a Mobile App

January 13, 2023 By 901am

It was only a matter of time before movie watching in the theaters will be invaded by mobile apps. Screen Vision, a cinema advertising firm, is implementing a plan to integrate mobile devices when people go inside theaters. The plan is to enhance the pre-show experience before the movie is shown.

About 2,400 theaters across the United States are involved in this project. Screenvision developed an app for the iOS called Screenfanz. The objective is to bring a game show experience for people who arrive early in the theater. [Read more…]

Wallit App Allows You to Post Messages on Virtual Walls Worldwide

January 13, 2023 By 901am

Location based social networking services like FourSquare are very huge right now, the same with messaging apps. Developing an app that will combine the two is practically inevitable. This is the kind of app that Wallit is. But this is not just a plain vanilla messaging app with geo-location features. Wallit has bigger objectives than that. [Read more…]

Apple approves 100,000th app, and then some

January 2, 2023 By Andy Merrett

The road to application approval hasn’t always been smooth, with apps approved and then pulled, or outright banned on rather shaky grounds, but that hasn’t stopped Apple powering to 100,000 approved apps in the iTunes App Store.

The web site Appshopper.com has counted 102,485 approved applications and 93,659 available.

That’s a mind-boggling number, and unfortunately says nothing about the quality of those applications. Bear in mind that there are many variations on the same theme, and some (a lot) of them are complete and utter rubbish. [Read more…]

UK 0870 iPhone app gets green light after O2/BT back down (allegedly)

December 30, 2022 By Andy Merrett

Cracked iPhoneI wish Apple would stop trying to keep its exclusive mobile network partners happy and just open up the iPhone to any network, then it wouldn’t have to pander to their tightfisted demands.

In fact, Apple shouldn’t have to pander to the network operators as it is, particularly after the rather derogatory labels Steve Jobs has applied to them in the past, yet their demands still seem to cause apps to get blocked, at to detriment of paying customers.

The latest app is one that British iPhone users would no doubt relish. The 0870 application quickly finds alternative geographically fixed phone numbers for the pesky non-geographical 08** numbers that companies frequently use and cost an absolute fortune to call from cellphones. [Read more…]

Transfer Money to Friends With Facebook

December 16, 2022 By Andrew G. R.

With too many Facebook applications to name, it’s hard to keep afloat with the latest and greatest.

UK-based Moneybookers (Paypal competitor) will offer their customers and Facebook users the ability to use an app to transfer money to and fro. Billed as a “social fundraising” application, the project is currently in beta mode, expected to be released to the general public some time in June.

Moneybookers currently has 4.6 million customers, and will likely see that number head north with the new app. The site requires identity verification before using their service to minimize fraud and prevent money laundering. Their fee structure is comparable to Paypal’s.

I’m all for charity, but let’s hope this doesn’t turn into another vehicle for bloggers to beg for ‘donations’ they don’t need (or deserve).

Will you roll the dice on completing a financial transaction within the Facebook framework?
