First Impressions of Spotify

April 7, 2023 By 901am

As many of us music lovers may have realized by now, Spotify has entered the US. Spotify is a DRM-based music streaming service. Spotify, instantly gives me a flashback to my days of Napster. It has similar qualities, although the look is different, and they are also taking a different approach. Spotify requires no downloading, and your favorite song is just a click away. Instantly, I notice some pro’s and cons of using Spotify.

After submitting my email, a few days later I got invite. I am glad that I waited, since I almost immediately purchased the Pro version. I usually like to try out the products I am using before I make any purchase, especially when it comes to music applications. Spotify was an easy download, doesn’t seem to affect my computer too much, and has a nice looking icon that sits in my dock. The design looks like a mixture between old school Napster, and iTunes. Overall, I think it looks good. It is very simple to navigate, and I pretty much picked up on the all features within a few minutes. The best part about Spotify is the immense library they have to offer. You can search virtually any song you can think of, and start  playing instantly. Of course this music is streaming, so you do not worry about download times and taking up space on your computer with large libraries of music. Spotify will actually load all of your music stored in local files as an extenuation of your music listening experience. Very cool! Spotify lets you have your own library and if you are feeling sick of your own music, with the click of a button you can have virtually any song that you like. This makes Spotify a very dynamic music program. [Read more…]

UK’s online advertising spend exceeds TV

March 27, 2023 By Andy Merrett

The UK has become the first major market where spending on online advertising has exceeded that of TV, according to figures released by the Internet Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The recession caused an overall reduction in advertising spend, but many companies have invested more in online advertising compared with traditional media.

New Media Age’s editor, Justin Pearse, said that although this was expected to happen eventually, the milestone had been achieved at least a year sooner than expected due to the current economic climate. [Read more…]

BBC to share video content with UK newspapers

March 27, 2023 By Andy Merrett

Four of the UK’s major newspapers — the Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Independent and Daily Mail — will be able to embed some BBC video news content on their web sites, thanks to a new deal struck today.

bbc-logoContent won’t be exclusive, but instead editors will be able to choose videos from a number of subject areas — UK politics, business, health, and science and technology — which have already been published on the BBC Online web site.

The BBC may also roll out this service to other UK-based online news services in the future, with the initial publications chosen because they have a significant audience. [Read more…]

Can’t We All Just Get Along? NO!

March 13, 2023 By Andrew G. R.

Fans of cable news talking heads can now get their non-stop debate fix at Opposing Views, a new Website that pits experts against each other.

From the economy to health issues, the environment to politics, you can expect to see all your favorite hot-button issues represented. behind the arguments are associations ans so-called ‘experts’ who state their case using text, images, video and links.

The stronger case will be determined by the readers who can comment and vote on who they think made the better argument. They also can get in on the action by adding their own debate comments.

Currently on the homepage, Obama’s economic advisor is duking it out with a McCain senior advisor. And a district attorney is taking on Amnesty International on capital punishment.

Many “experts” are willing to participate because they will increase exposure for their link as Opposing Views’ search rank cred rises.

The company launched in September 2007 and has raised approximately 1.5 million to date.
